Today the first ceremonial shovel was put in the ground to celebrate the upcoming start of groundworks for our future battery factory. Holding the shovels were Jonas Attenius, chairman of the Gothenburg Municipal Board, and Adrian Clarke, CEO of NOVO Energy.
"This is a milestone not only for us, but for Gothenburg, the entire region and for Sweden. Our battery factory will be a key to Volvo Cars' transition to an electric car manufacturer and will simultaneously create many thousands of new jobs and strengthen Gothenburg's and Sweden's role in batteries, which are one of the major industries of the future," says Adrian Clarke.
The new battery factory will be built next to Volvo Cars in Torslanda on an area covering 55 hectares - the equivalent of around 100 football pitches. Groundwork for the new factory will start in October.
