Vänersborg District Court gives NOVO Energy permission to build and operate a facility for the manufacture of lithium ion batteries.

Following an application from NOVO Energy, a jointly owned company between Northvolt and Volvo Cars, the Land and Environmental Court decided on July 12 to grant permission for the establishment and operation of a facility for a battery factory. The new battery factory will be built next to Volvo Cars in Torslanda.
12 July, 2023 | Gothenburg, Sweden – Following an application from NOVO Energy, a jointly owned company between Northvolt and Volvo Cars, the Land and Environmental Court decided on July 12 to grant permission for the establishment and operation of a facility for a battery factory. The new battery factory will be built next to Volvo Cars in Torslanda.

Now the work can really begin and we can start preparing the ground for Sweden's second, and Gothenburg's first, gigafactory for the batteries of the future." says Adrian Clarke, CEO of NOVO Energy.

Groundworks for the first NOVO Energy gigafactory, with a potential cell manufacturing capacity of up to 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year, started in 2023. Production is scheduled to start in 2026.
